Converting .PNG to SVG

I've been trying most of the morning to convert a Fireworks MX 2004 .PNG file
into an SVG or other vector file, with very little (maybe no) luck. Is there
any extension or patch that would allow this? Is there any third-party
software that can handle this? It would be a bonus if it could maintain layers
as well. Thanks. - Dennis.

You can export from fireworks as an ai file, then bring that into
Illustrator to convert to

Don't you need Illustrator CS for that? I'm a couple versions back on my Adobe Suite... Guess it's time to upgrade? Ugh.

It's available in ai10 (the most recent version I have installed), but I
can't say if it was available in earlier versions. I've not used svg
yet--have created lots of swfs though... -Tom Unger
